A Message from the Bishop

The Rt. Rev. Peter D. Wilkinson, OSG

Azure a unicorn rampant Or armed maned and unguled Argent gorged with a coronet fleury Gules holding a Madonna lily Argent slipped Or.

The Motto:
Mihi vivere Christus est
For to me to live is Christ Philippians 1.21

The Coats of Arms of the Wilkinson family have for centuries have used the unicorn — symbol of the Incarnate and Risen Lord Jesus Christ and His sinless life. Bishop Peter has chosen to transform this image by adding the red crown around the Unicorn’s neck to denote that Christ achieved our salvation through His victory on the Cross. The Unicorn, as a symbol of Jesus, has in his hoof a madonna lily symbolic of His blessed Mother.

The shield is laid over a gold processional cross with the green hat–gallero–and cord and 12 tassels common to Bishops. Green is the heraldic colour for bishops. Distinctive here is the gold running through the cording.
